Foundation Text: Genesis 12:1-9
Living is something that is alive, something that can grow, move, produce, and carry out various activities. As living beings, we are called to be "living epistles" - known and read by all, reflecting the love of Christ to those who do not yet know Him as their personal Savior.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. As Abram (later Abraham) believed God, God considered him righteous on account of his faith (Genesis 15:6). We are called to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), as faith comes from hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17).
God called Abram to leave his country, people, and father's household and go to the land God would show him. God promised to make Abram into a great nation, bless him, and make his name great, and that all people on earth would be blessed through him (Genesis 12:1-3). Abram, at 75 years old, moved out in faith, going to the land of Canaan as the Lord had told him.
Abram's journey of faith began with a call from God. Similarly, each of us has a call and a purpose from God. It is up to us to listen, understand, and follow the direction God gives us through His word and the leading of the Holy Spirit. This requires action on our part - a continued surrendering of our lives to God, a patient waiting on His timing, and a steadfast trust in His perfect plan for our lives.
God's promise to bless the nations through Abram's descendants was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we have been brought into a right relationship with God, empowered to live as "living epistles" and draw others to a saving knowledge of Christ.
As we continue in this "Snapshots of Faith" series, let us be encouraged to live out our faith boldly, trusting God's timing and plan for our lives. Though we may not always understand, we can be confident that God is faithful and is working all things together for our good. Let us be a light in this world, drawing others to the love and salvation found in Jesus Christ.
